2000 Citizen of the Year - Mary Lee Pase
I seriously doubt that anyone who has ever had children attend Delmar Elementary School does not know the recipient of the Greater Delmar Chamber of Commerce 2000 Citizen of the Year - Mary Lee Pase. We are very proud to honor a truely worthy individual!
Mary Lee was born in Cambridge, Maryland and lived in Madison with her parents and 5 sisters and 2 brothers. She married at 20 and had her children.
Mary Lee and her husband Bob are proud parents of her son Charlie with wife Suzanne (&sons Jonathon & Nicholas), her daughter Terri with husband Blain (&daughter Sadie), his daughter Debbie (with son Clark & daughter Stacy) and his daughter Barbie (with son Robbie and daughter Nicole with husband Kellam & son Joshua).
Mary Lee does not remember a time that she did not want to be a nurse. After graduating, Mary Lee worked briedly at Cambridge Hospital and as a Private Duty prior to beginning her 31-year career at Delmar Elementary.
During this time, Mary Lee has established a great rapport with the children of Delmar Elementary. You would be hard pressed to find one of the approximately 950 children enrolled in the school who does not know "the school nurse" Mary Lee Pase.
Mary is often "on duty" 24 hours a day due to the trust and faith of not only the children but also the parents and community as a whole. She is always there to lend a hand, a sympathetic ear or a word of advise. However, Mary Lee has always strived to acheive the balance of being "on duty" without slighting her family.
And if being "on duty" 24 hours a day wasn't enough, Mary Lee is a member of the Wicomico County Nurses Association, a nurse at a 2 week camp at Horn Point in Cambridge for the gifted and talented, a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxilary in Cambridge, a member of the Lower Shore Chapter of the American Red Cross, a member of the Wicomico County School Health Council and a member of the State of Delaware Baord of Elections
In addition, Mary Lee is a past member of the Delmar Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary (10+ years), a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary for more than twenty years where she has served as President for 3 terms and as District 16 President for 2 terms, a past member of the Delmar Jr/Sr High School Board for 5 years and a past member of the Delmar Parks & Recreation Committee.
Mary Lee currently serves as Chairman of the Delmar Utility Commission and is in her second 4-year term as a member of the Town Council.
Congratulations, Mary Lee, you are truely an "Outstanding Citizen" and we are proud that it is Delmar that you represent.
