General Information
Delmar is two incorporated towns:
Delmar, Delaware, governed by a Mayor and four Council members and
Delmar, Maryland, governed by a Mayor and four Commissioners.
The Town shares a central administration, police department, public works department, and sewer/water facilities which are jointly owned and operated.

Public meetings are held monthly at Town Hall on the following schedule:
Mayor & Council (DE) - First Monday
Mayor & Commissioners (MD) - Second Monday
Delmar Utility Commission - Third Monday
Joint Maryland-Delaware - Fourth Monday

 


Administration
The Delmar Town Hall, located at 100 South Pennsylvania Avenue, is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm. The Town Hall accomodates the offices of the Town Manager, Code Enforcement Officer, Grants Administrator, and the Municipal Clerk. It serves as the meeting place for the Town Council, Commissions & Boards.

Police
The Delmar Police Department is located in the Service Center at the corner of South Pennsylvania Avenue and Walnut Street. The Department is comprised of ten full time officers, a police communications officer and a part time animal control officer. All full time officers are fully trained and certified in both Maryland and Delaware. After hours dispatching is performed through the Wicomico County Sheriff's Department. Delmar's officers provide additional community service through Neighborhood Crime Watch and speaking engagements for the local schools and civic organizations.

 


Alderman's Court
The Alderman's Court is located at 100 North First Street, Delmar Delaware. Alderman's Courts are authorized by the town charters of their respective towns in Delaware. The jurisdiction of the Court is limited to most misdemeanors and traffic violations occuring in Delmar, Delaware. Maryland violations are handled through the District Court System. The Alderman's Court is open on Fridays from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

 


Public Works
The Public Works Department is located behind the Police Department at the Town Service Center. The Department is responsible for a variety of operation and maintenance activities including water sewer, streets, storm drainage, trash collection, grounds keeping and snow removal. Personnel in the department that are responsible for the water supply and water collection and treatment must be trained, licensed and certified by the State of Maryland and the State of Delaware.

 


Wastewater Treatment
The Wastewater Treatment Plant is located on Connelly Mill Road, behind the old treatment facility. Its three employees operate and maintain all processes and equipment at the plant. They are responsible for the State mandated testing of the finished product. The plant is staffed 8 hours a day, 365 days a year and is monitored the other 16 hours a day by an alarm system that automatically calls standby personnel. All personnel are required to be trained and licensed by the State of Maryland and to complete continuous training classes.

 


Park's & Recreation
Delmar's six parks have been developed, operated and maintained through the cooperative efforts of the Town Governments, the Delmar Little League and the Parks and Recreation Council. Area businesses and local civic organizations have also provided assistance throughout the years.
