President's Welcome
You ARE The Solution
Delmar - what a unique and fascinating place!
And it's the people who make it that way. Those words could apply to any town, anywhere, but, consider this ---
One town, divided by a state border - North and South of the Mason Dixon Line, twice burned to the ground, no natural waterway.
Yes, in it's day, a thriving railhead, but since the mid 50's the railroad has not played an "integral" roll in the town's economy.
Over shadowed by the largest city in the mid Delmarva Peninsula to the south, Delaware's capitol to the north and the giant tourism attractions to the east. No military bases, no heavy industry, no "mega" business which provides employment to a substantial portion of the citizens.
No natural resources; no precious ores, no timber since the early 19th century, no potash or lime deposits, no building stone except for an occasional alluvial gravel pit.
In short, only the soil and the people.
And Yet ...
And yet ... Delmar is home to ...
The premier "State of the Art" Junior/Senior High School in the State of Delaware.
"Little" Delmar High School has produced State championship teams in both young men's and womens sports.
The Third largest tourist attraction in the State of Delaware - The Delaware International Raceway and Route 13 Dragway.
A progressive, proactive, pro-business, pro-citizen bi-state governmental administration which has been, and continues to rebuild the very infrastruture of the town itself...
... with an agressive annexation program which has doubled the corporate size of Delmar in the last ten years.
Multiple parks and recreational facilties which play host to, among other things - Delmar's largest regionally recognized event, The Day in the Park; a sanctioned Championship Little League organization in which, hundreds of young people participate; a thriving summer park program; and the Children's Theater.
A growing, free standing Public Library which houses a dedicated historical wing and volunteers, committed to preserving Delmar's legacy.
One of only two model railroad enthusiast clubs in the entire State of Delaware.
One of the largest, best organized, and oldest volunteer Fire Departments/E.M.T. Squads on the Eastern Shore.
Some of the finest craftsmen and construction companies on Delmarva who reside in and operate out of Delmar.
Folks, the list goes on, and on ... I haven't even gotten to the rich quilted fabric of the giving and caring civic organizations; the health service groups, offices, and homes; the incredible service industry professionals and companies; and our growing, "clean", high tech industry base.
In short, the wealth of great things, great people and great opportunities that call Delmar ... home.
Our Home Town
The Greater Delmar Chamber of Commerce is committed to maintaining some of the richest traditions of Our Town --- The Day in the Park, the annual Christmas Parade, the holiday Carnival of Lights, the Citizen of the Year Banquet and Award, The Dr. Wayne C. Bastian Scholarship.
But we are far more ...
The Chamber was the first Delmarva Chamber to advocate and build an interactive, informative web site - recognizing the need for our businesses and local organizations to link and proactively take advantage of the burgeoning new technology.
This step has led us to developing ...
ongoing seminars ... open to the public on a wide range of topics from legislative to safety to financial and marketing themes ... business and civic cooperative efforts ... to heighten awareness of local resources in our rapidly changing economy ... to encourage interconnected local patronage and cooperative marketing ...
to build an environment of community and family.
