Beaches

Delaware Bay Beachs
Broadkill Beach, Primehook Beach (also known as Short's Beach), Fowler Beach and Slaughter Beach. Each of these Beachs is accessible only by crossing the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge on side roads dropping down from Coastal Highway Route 1,. Each of the Beachs play host to private residences, also, but Fowler, which is the most difficult to access, is the most secluded. All of them, as is Beach Plum Island (farther south along the Bay toward the Roosevelt Inlet above Lewes) are excellent places to try out your surf fishing skills.

Cape Henlopen State Park
Cape Henlopen's beaches attract thousands of visitors who enjoy ocean swimming and sunbathing. Two designated swimming beaches provide lifeguard patrols between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day. "Bay Beach" on the Delaware Bay is perfect for small children and those who want to just relaxing environment. "Ocean Beach" around the point of the Cape is wide open, no buildings, with the strong rip tides associated with ocean beachs - a truely beautiful stretch of sand. Umbrellas can be rented during the summer. The northern swimming area also features a modern bath house with showers, changing rooms, and a food concession. (302)645-8983.

Delaware Seashore State Park
Two ocean swimming areas feature modern bathhouses with showers and changing rooms. Lifeguards patrol the beaches from 9 am to 5 pm daily between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day. Snack foods are available at the bathhouses, and umbrellas, chairs, and rafts can be rented on the beach. (302)227-2800.

Fenwick Island State Park
Lifeguards patrol the swimming beach daily from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, 9am to 5pm. One of the newest features at the park is the modern bathhouse, which offers convenient showers and changeing rooms, a gift shop, and a snack food concession. During the summer months, umbrellas, chairs, and rafts may be rented on the beach. (302)539-9060.

Holts Landing State Park
From Holts Landing beach you can see all of Indian River Bay, from the Inlet to the coves at the Indian River mouth. (302)539-9060.


Watersport

Delaware Seashore State Park
Surfers enjoy riding the mighty ocean waves at Delaware Seashore, too. The beach just north of the Inlet is one of the few designated areas in the state for this exciting sport. (302)227-2800.

Fenwick Island State Park
Surfers can catch the big waves at Fenwick Island, too. There is a designated surfing area north of the swimming area in front of the bathouse. (302)539-9060.

Surface Interval Wreck Dive Charters
Surface Interval is a dive charter boat running out of Indian River Inlet (302)422-DIVE .


Rentals

Fenwick Island State Park
A watercraft rental concession on the bay shore provides sailboats, windsurfers, and offers lessons for beginners. (302)539-9060.

Trap Pond State Park
Rowboats, pedal boats, surf bikes and canoes can be rented for use on Trap Pond. (302)875-5153.
